Profile
“Sumi” Artist (Calligrapher) KOKA ONO
I began calligraphy at age eight.
I grew up in the culture of ink and inkstones since infancy.
Fascinated by Old Ink and Old Inkstones—those more than a hundred years old—and the depths and beauties these things create, every time I carefully choose the instruments: brush, ink, inkstone, paper
In 2012, my Master held an four-woman exhibition in France and Switzerland to express the beauty of ink colors and won accolade.
I was part of the exhibition.
Since then, with my Master’s word, “The ink color is your heart’s color,” I have been aiming to produce works that appeal the viewer’s heart and life.

Commitment
The Four Stationery Treasures refer to the brush, inkstick, inkstone, and paper.
These tools are called “Four Treasures” and it have been valued highly in calligraphy since ancient times.
In recent years, convenient liquid ink has become the mainstream with fewer people grinding the inkstick on the inkstone.
However, precious old inksticks and inkstones that have been handed down over the ages have a special beauty that cannot be achieved with liquid ink
Some inksticks match some inkstones, and when they also match paper, you can express what you want.
In a world of endless exploration, I put my heart and soul into each line sumi creates to create works of art.
